Another Goodreads review

I stopped reading this book a third of the way through. I thought it was ok and the characters were fine, but it didn't blow me away or anything. I found myself rolling my eyes at a lot of it. I got annoyed at how predictable it was. I only picked it up in the first place because I'd gotten it for free after buying a bunch of books from Goodwill. I don't believe I will go back to finish it. Ever. Unless I'm stranded with it on some remote island away from civilization. But really, if you have absolutely nothing better to do and don't mind contrived romantic situations and tons of historical detail hitting you over the head as a distraction from said contrived romantic situations, go for this book. Maybe you won't feel you'd wasted several hours of your life, like I did after reading this.

The funny thing is, a couple of years ago--really just two years ago--I would have become thoroughly engrossed in this book. Five or so years ago and I might have become obsessed with it. But fortunately, I am at a place where I am quite safe from forming any type of attachment to this work.
